“Celebrating Chemistry:  Then and Now”

       PRIZES!

For elementary, middle, and high school students.  Supplies and a room for starting your poster will be part of the Carnival!

The real purpose of looking back is not of course, merely to obtain satisfaction from reflecting on past triumphs; rather, it is to discover as many clues as possible to the likely developments of the future”---Glenn T. Seaborg, 1976 ACS President

Chemistry—It’s part of everything that you see, touch, taste, or smell.  Chemicals make up the food that you eat; the clothes you wear; the computer you use; the medicines you take, and your body.  As part of NCW-2001, and in recognition of the 125th Anniversary Celebration of the American Chemical Society, students are invited to draw a poster illustrating how chemists and/or chemistry have contributed to positive changes in the quality of our lives in the past 125 years.

Participants might consider carrying out the theme by using topics such as:

¨       Communications: Then and Now

¨       Cooking: Then and Now

¨       Great Chemists:  Then and Now

¨       Health Care: Then and Now

¨       Medicine: Then and Now

¨       Technology: Then and Now

¨       The Chemist’s Workplace:  Then and Now

¨       The Image of a Chemist:  Then and Now

¨       Transportation:  Then and Now

… or by choosing some topic of their own.
